Location: Southwest Distribution Center, 840 Interchange Blvd., Austin, TX 78721
The forklift rodeo is an annual event for our Team Members to demonstrate their knowledge and skills revolving around the use of two of our most used pieces of equipment in our distribution center: the high mast reach truck and the “rider” style pallet jack. With weights up to 9600 lbs (unloaded), safety is of the utmost importance, and it all starts with their understanding of the design limitations, WFM operating rules and OSHA regulations. Written tests are done prior to the event, and grades are figured into the final scoring. The obstacle course, however, is the most exciting part of the event where operators are graded on their skills. Speed, accuracy and maneuverability all come into play where, at times, only an inch separates the winners from the losers. Prizes, including cash, are awarded to the top-three scorers on both equipment types, and the top scorer from each receives an all-expenses-paid trip for themselves and a guest to the National Fork lift Rodeo that WFM hosts in Ft. Lauderdale, FL each year, where they will compete again for the national title.
